Alexander Studholme

Overview

Alex is experienced in advising clients in complex commercial arbitrations with a particular focus on construction and engineering disputes.

He is known for his down-to-earth, approachable and practical manner in working with clients, while applying his sharp intellect to help find effective and creative solutions to legal and factual challenges.

Alex and Mat have worked together previously, including advising a joint venture of contractors on one of the largest infrastructure project in Qatar. 

Alex is based in Mantle Law’s UAE office.

Advised an EPC Contractor in relation to threatened ICC arbitration proceedings (in London) in a dispute with the Owner and Lenders concerning the construction of an oil refinery in North-East Africa.

Acting for a Chinese contractor in a dispute involving an EPC Contract governed by Singapore law in respect of a major chemical plant in North America, with the dispute resolution mechanism being an ICC arbitration seated in Singapore.

Acting for the Employer in defending an ICC arbitration brought by the Contractor on an oil pipeline project in Yemen, with claims involving standby costs for alleged suspension and force majeure. This claim also involved bringing substantial counterclaims against the Contractor for late completion and non-performance.

Acting on behalf of the Owner contrary to the interests of a German engineering company in connection with a dispute arising from the construction and delayed completion of a complex chemical process plant in the UK.
